Use of 5-hydroxylysine or 1,4-diamino-2-butanone to inhibit the growth of E. amylovora, the etiological agent of fire blight is disclosed. The invention includes fire blight control agents which comprise salts of 5-hydroxylysine or 1,4-diamino-2-butanone either as powdery preparations or dissolved in aqueous carrier solutions.
