Method of producing cutting links (9) of saw chains, with the following steps of the method: a) producing a metal strip; b) punching out from a steel strip cutting-link blanks which consist of a bridging area and a cutting area in one piece; c) bending the blanks to form a cutting link; d) hardening the cutting link. The steel strip intended for punching was welded together from at least two parallel strip areas of different types of steel, one type being a low-alloy steel (less expensive) and the other type being a high-alloy steel (more expensive), the bridging area coming to lie in the low-alloy steel or strip width and the cutting area coming to lie in the high-alloy steel or strip width by selecting the strip widths and locating the punching cuts for the cutting-link blank. Steps b) to d) are then carried out. The steel strip intended for punching will preferably consist of three areas, produced, that is, from two outer strip areas of high-alloy steel and an inner strip area of low-alloy steel; two parallel rows of cutting-link blanks are then punched simultaneously.
