<p>As depicted in the figure, the instant invention provides an advanced television (ATV) receiver employing a 'trick play' mode to record MPEG compatible data on a standard digital VCR. The decoder (100) extracts an MPEG compatible ATV signal from the RF carrier. The decoder (100) comprises a generator (150) for producing HD video ouput and a compression decoder (140) for producing audio output. The 'trick play' processor (200) changes the resolution of the original signal to form a 'trick play' signal which multiplexer (340) combines with the received data stream, from block structurer (330), to form a record signal. 'Trick play' data stream (251) is recorded by recording system (350), at specific track locations which facilitate 'track play' reproduction at a plurality of speeds in both forward and reverse directions.</p> |
