The hopper control system maintains the level of material inside the hopper (2) within the hopper working limits. As the hopper level moves between the lower and upper area of the working limits, the fill rate of raw material (1) is increased or decreased towards a measured average rate accordingly. The change in fill rate is dependent on the variation of hopper level with time.The width of the gap between the rollers (3a,3b) is hydraulically altered relative to the variation of hopper level with time. The roller output is fed to a separator (4), where the larger particles are separated out and fed back (5) to the hopper. Raw material input is varied according to the volume of particles returned from the separator.
