To strengthen it, a shell-shaped workpiece (1) has rigid projections (2) perpendicular to its surface (2) and rigidly connected perpendicularly to said surface (2). Every two projections (3) are joined by at least one tensioning component (4) spaced away from the surface (2). Said tensioning component (4) fixes, for its location, the distance between the projections (3) and thus stiffens the shape of the shell-shaped workpiece (1). If the lengths of the tensioning components (4) can be varied, the shape of the shell-shaped workpiece (1) can be altered by changing the length of the tensioning components.
