<p>A display (10) is constructed from translucent fluorescent plastic sheet (12) material providing an ambient light (24) capturing an intensifying light conduit (12). Area dimensions are selected appropriate to a sign or other display (10) and a thickness is selected for structural support of the display (10) and for capturing, intensifying and conducting ambient light (24) along the thickness of the light conduit (12) to intensify captured light as in a wave guide. A substantially opaque reflective layer (14) is formed on one side of the light conduit (12). A decorative layer (15) is formed over the reflective layer (14). Grooves (16, 18) are formed in the light conduit (12) through the reflective decorative coating (15) in the pattern of the selected display (10). The grooves (16, 18) are formed to a depth to intercept light captured in the light conduit (12). The grooves (16, 18) provide angled surfaces (20, 22) which refract, capture and illuminate light out of the light conduit (12). Some light refracted out of the light conduit (12) at the angled surfaces (20, 22) illuminates the selected grooves (16, 18) of the display (10).</p> |
