An organic alignment film for a liquid crystal device is formed from at least one species of polymer including a polymer having an average molecular weight of at most 30,000. Preferably the polymer has a molecular weight of at most 8,000. The alignment film also contains a second polymer having an average molecular weight exceeding 30,000. The first polymer is preferably a polyimide of specified formula while the second polymer is a polyamide of specified formula. |
