<p>The electrical appts. includes an envelope (2,10) subject to a pressure which is different from that outside. The envelope has a detector which senses any change in the pressure within the envelope. This consists of a mesh of optical fibres (5) which are subject to stress when the pressure changes within the envelope. The fibres carry light from a light source (6) to a detector (7) which senses any variation in the phase of the light received. The phase variation is used to determine the changing optical path length and hence the strain suffered by the optical fibre mesh. <IMAGE></p> |
