A fixing device for a male/female pipe coupling includes first and second hinged fixing members (30, 40) of a substantially semicircular cylindrical shape. In the closed position, the fixing members cooperate to form a recess of a shape corresponding to that of fitted-together couplings (11, 21) at the ends of pipes (10, 20) so as to axially hold together the couplings. A releasable lock comprises a catch member (33) on the first fixing member and a latch member (5) on the second fixing member. The female coupling has axially spaced engagement formations (21 - 2, 21 - 3). In other embodiments the hinge can operate to maintain the fixing device in an open position, and means can be provided to allow liquid to drain from the fixing means. <IMAGE>
