The hinge guard has the hinge set in a recess in the leading edge (16) of the control surface, and is equipped with at least one covering plate (32) forming a calibrated clearance from the side walls (28a) of the recess. Adjacent to its lateral edges each covering plate has zones (40) of reduced strength which allow the plate to break when it is subjected to an effort above a set value. The closure plate has a tongue (34) which is joined to the fixed structure (12) of the control surface and two strips (38) along its edges which carry the zones of reduced strength, made in the form of lengthwise grooves.
