Method for producing a ratchet device

The method includes the steps of forming a circular recess (6) in a blank metal plate, compressing the metal plate between dies so as to reduce the depth of the recess and thicken the side wall (10) thereof and forming ratchet teeth (7) in and along the inner annular surface of the side wall (10) of the recess. By locally thickening the side wall of the recess, it is possible to use a blank plate which would otherwise be too thin to permit the forming of ratchet teeth.
