PURPOSE:To industrially and advantageously obtain the subject compound, by transesterifying specific two kinds of compounds in the presence of a dialkyltin compound catalyst and crystallizing without recovering a raw material ester from the reaction mixture, CONSTITUTION:A 3-(3-t-butyl-4-hydroxy-5-methylphenyl) propionic ester of formula I (R<1> is a 1-3C alkyl) is transesterified with 3,9-bis(2-hydroxy-1,1- dimethylethyl)-2,4,8,10-tetraoxaspiro[5.5]undecane in the presence of a dialkyltin compound catalyst (preferably dibutyltin dimethoxide or dibutyltin diacetate). The raw material ester of formula I is not recovered from the reaction mixture and the reaction mixture is crystallized to give the objective 3,9-bis[2]-3-(3-t- butyl-4-hydroxy-5-methylphenyl)propionyloxy)-1,1-dimethylethyl]-2,4,8,10- tetraoxaspiro[5.5]undecane of formula II. |
