957,920. Tunnel kilns. ATON PLANUNGSUND BAUGESELLSCHAFT FUR DIE KERAMISCHE INDUSTRIE G.m.b.H. Nov. 8, 1961 [Nov. 9, 1960], No. 39967/61. Heading F4B. In a tunnel kiln for firing ceramic ware, having, on the side walls and roof of the preheating and cooling zones, plates 2 resiliently yieldable in the direction of advance of firing carriages 1 to scrape over the charge, thus causing combustion gases flowing from the firing zone to the pre-heating zone, and cool air entering the cooling zone, to flow through interstices in the charge to give even heating and cooling, the plates are prevented by stops from jerking back beyond the direction normal to the direction of carriage motion. The plates 2, of sheet metal, asbestos cloth, or the like, are supported on bars 3 and are inclined in the direction of carriage movement. Successive groups of plates are arranged at regular intervals along the kiln close enough to provide at least three seals along the length of one firing carriage but set apart enough to avoid interference between the plates. |
