PURPOSE:To obtain an aluminum oxynitride sintered compact suitable for uses such as durable optical window and refractory materials. CONSTITUTION:This method for producing aluminum oxynitride powder is to dissolve or disperse a water-soluble aluminum salt and a polymer in water, regulate the pH to >=8, form a white precipitate, separate the resultant precipitate from water, bake the separated precipitate at >=800 to <=1600 deg.C in a nitrogen gas stream, disintegrating the aggregated grains, provide powder and thereby afford fine powder having a size in the order of submicrons suitable for sintering. As a result, the economically mass-producible aluminum oxynitride powder can be obtained. |
