PURPOSE:To obtain a low oxygen silicon nitride ceramic compact and fibers having high strength and excellent in heat resistance by compacting low oxygen polymetallosilazane formed by a specified method and thermally decomposing the resultant compact. CONSTITUTION:Org. or inorg. silazane is allowed to react with a metal alkoxide represented by the general formula M(OR)n [where M is one of groups IIa and III-V metallic elements of the Periodic Table, each of plural R's is H, 1-20C alkyl or aryl, at least one of R's is alkyl or aryl and (n) is the valence of M] in the presence of a silicon. compd. represented by the formula (where each of R<3> to R<6> is H, alkyl aryl, amino, halogen, etc.). The resultant low oxygen polymetallosilazane is compacted, heated to 400-1,800 deg.C optionally under pressure or non-pressure and thermally decomposed by holding at the temp. for <=48hr. |
