PURPOSE:To produce a denox catalyst capable of reducing and removing nitrogen compds. in exhaust gas even in an oxygen-excess atmosphere by kneading an alumina hydrate having a specified physical property, water-soluble silver salt and water as a precursor for an activated alumina, then drying and burning. CONSTITUTION:This denox catalyst is produced by kneading the alumina hydrate having the specified physical property, the water-soluble silver salt and the water as the precursor for the activated alumina, then drying and burning. Then, in a fine pore structure after burned at 300-800 deg.C, this alumina hydrate is specified so that the volume of fine pores having <=50Angstrom fine pore radius measured by a gaseous nitrogen adsorption method and the volume of fine pores having 100-300Angstrom fine pore radius are specified to 50-10% respectively per the volume of fine pores having <=300Angstrom fine pore radius. On the other hand, this denox catalyst is applied to a denox catalyst bed through which exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine operated in a dilute air-fuel ratio is passed. |
