<p>PURPOSE:To inexpensively mass-produce 1,4,5,8-naphthalenetetracarboxylic acid useful as an intermediate raw material for pigment, resins, etc., in high yield. CONSTITUTION:In this method for producing 1,4,5,8-naphthalehetetracarboxylic acid by oxidizing 1,4,5,8-naphthalenetetracarboxylic acid and/or 5,6- dimethylacenaphthene as a raw material with molecular oxygen in an aliphatic carboxlic acid solvent in the presence of an oxidation catalyst comprising at least one heavy metal salt selected from cobalt and manganese and a bromine compound, the amount of the heavy metal in the oxidation catalyst is 0.1-2.0 gram atom based on 1mol of the raw material and the oxidation is carried out at 100-220 deg.C reaction temperature.</p> |
