PURPOSE:To easily produce 1,5-diaminonaphthalene useful as an intermediate for dye, a raw material for heat-resistant polymer, etc., in high purity, selectivity and yield by reacting a 1-amino-5-halogenonaphthalene with ammonia. CONSTITUTION:This 1,5-diaminonaphthalene is produced by reacting (A) a 1-amino-5-halogenonaphthalene such as 1-amino-5-bromonaphthalene with (B) ammonia e.g. in the form of an aqueous solution of ammonia. The reaction is preferably carried out in the presence of copper or a copper compound as a catalyst in an amount of 0.01-10mol, especially 0.1-2mol based on 1mol of the component A at a reaction temperature of >=80 deg.C. |
