PURPOSE:To reduce the probability of generation of non-conformity which might occur after the scarcity of a residual ink, to a maximum allowable extent by providing a control means which controls a signal applied to a recording head so that ink consumption amount is further saved in an ink saving mode. CONSTITUTION:A residual ink amount stored in non-volatile memory 21 is compared to the comparative value of a residual ink amount stored previously in a control part 20, using the control part 20, so that it is determined whether the residual ink amount of an ink cartridge 10 is scarce. If it is determined that the value is scarce, the control part 20 checks whether a selected recording mode is a routine mode or an ink saving mode, and if it is the ink saving mode, changes a drive voltage to about 15V so that an optimal ink injection quantity is further reduced. |
