PURPOSE:To obtain a separator for cells or batteries, usable for various applications for a long period and especially useful for lithium batteries or cells using propylene carbonate as an electrolyte. CONSTITUTION:The characteristic of this separator for cells or batteries comprises using a nonwoven fabric prepared by mutually bonding fibers, consisting essentially of an ethylene-chlorotrifluoroethylene copolymer and having 1-10mum average fiber diameter and having 10-50g/m<2> basis weight and 0.15-0.9g/cm<3> apparent density.
