PURPOSE:To obtain the high contrast of an image in a wider range with respect to visual field angles in the up-and-down direction of a display screen. CONSTITUTION:In this device. since respective pixels having the pixel pitch of an electrode pitch R are bisected respectively into areas A, B in the up-and- down direction and rubbings are performed in reverse directions, the oriented direction of the liquid crystal molecule of the area A becomes the direction opposite to the oriented direction of the liquid crystal molecule of the area B and the liquid crystal molecule of the area A is oriented to the direction in which it is seen like black when it is seen from the direction of a visual angle (a) and also the liquid crystal molecule of the area B is oriented to the direction in which it is seen like black when it is seen from the direction of a visual angle (b). Moreover. a black stripe 1 is provided at the boundary part between the area A and the area B and a discharging electrode 15 and a rib 14 act as light shielding stripes. |
