A coating resin comprises a blend of (a) 76-95% of a polymer of ethylene of density 0.940-0.990 and (b) 5-24% of a polymer of ethylene of density less than 0.930, the blend having a density of 0.933-0.985, melt index 5-20 and CIL flow curve shape of 1.5-1.9. The polymer may be a homopolymer of ethylene or a copolymer with propylene or butene-1. Polymer (a) may be subjected to vis.: breaking by thermal degradation to narrow its molecular weight distribution, the treated polymer having a CIL shape of at least 5% less than the pretreated polymer. The blend may also be subjected to visbreaking to give a CIL shape of at least 5% less than the initial value of (a). A substrate, e.g. paper, foil, polyester film, scrim cloth or burlap, may be extrusion coated with the resin which is then cooled below its solidification temperature.ALSO:A substrate, e.g. paper, foil, polyester film, scrim cloth or burlap is extrusion coated with a coating resin comprising a blend of 76-95% of a polymer of ethylene of density 0,940-0,990 and 5-24% of a polymer of ethylene of density less than 0,930, the blend having a density of 0,933-0,985, melt index 5-20 and CIL flow curve slope of 1,5-1,9.
