PURPOSE:To output the noise light having a desired characteristic with a simple constitution by making the natural emitted light, which is outputted from a rare earth doped fiber, incident on an optical filter. CONSTITUTION:When exciting light from exciting light sources 12-1 and 12-2 is made incident on a rare earth doped fiber 11 through optical couplers 15 ana 16, only natural emitted light is generated and is propagated to both ends of the fiber 11. The natural light propagated to one end of the fiber 16 is reflected by a reflector 14 and is propagated toward the other end of the fiber 11 again and is amplified in the process of this propagation. It is made incident on an optical filter 13 together with natural emitted light propagated toward the other end, and light in a desired band becomes output noise light. Thus, the noise light for characteristic evaluation in each part in the optical communication system is obtained with the simple constitution. |
