PURPOSE:To selectively remove flares generated near a solid part where an edge is clear. CONSTITUTION:A first density comparison part 51 compares the pixel data M of a picture element under consideration with a flare removal object density FD and sets a first flag F1 at '1' in the case of M<=FD. Also, a second density comparison part 52 compares the pixel data S of the peripheral picture elements other than the picture element under consideration inside a processing area with a low density threshold value HD and a high density threshold value SD and sets a second flag F2 at '1' when the peripheral picture element of S<=HD and the peripheral picture element of SD4S are present inside the processing area. Then, in the case of F1=F2=1, a level conversion part 53 replaces the pixel data M of the picture element under consideration with a prescribed density level ED. |
