PURPOSE:To provide a sweep optical frequency generator of which the light frequency changes linearly with time. CONSTITUTION:A variable wavelength laser 1 sweeps frequencies of light at specified time intervals and branches the light with an optical branching device 3. Delay time is applied to the first branched output by an optical delaying line 4 and the light of the light frequency different from the light frequency of the output light of the optical branching device 3 is outputted. The light is multiplexed by an optical multiplexer 5 and is subjected to heterodyne detection by a photodetector 6. A heterodyne beat frequency is detected by a frequency analyzer 7 and the variable wavelength laser 1 is so controlled by a light frequency variable driving circuit 2 that the specified heterodyne beat frequency is attained, by which the frequency of the swept light is changed linearly with time.
