PURPOSE: To provide an electrodeless low pressure mercury vapor discharge lamp which is made to prevent the interaction between a phosphor layer and the particles from a discharge space. CONSTITUTION: This electrodeless low pressure mercury vapor discharge lamp has a discharge container 1 surrounding airtightly a discharge space 2 sealing mercury and a rare gas. The discharge container 1 has a translucent color surrounding part 3A, and a recessed part 3B where a coil 10 for generating a high-frequency magnetic field is placed. At least a part of the surface 4 of the discharge container 1, facing the discharge space 2, phosphor layers 5A and 5B are provided. At least a part of the phosphor layer 5B has a protective layer 6B of aluminum oxide particles with the coating amount from 10 to 500μg/cm<2> . This protective layer reduces the consumption of the mercury and/or reduces the variation of a color coordinate point. |
