PURPOSE:To easily display a right-handed or left-handed icon by calculating a vector going toward the farthest position from the center position coordinates of a pen pressing operation, detecting the pen pressing direction based on the vector, and switching the direction of display contents according to the pen pressing direction. CONSTITUTION:The center position coordinates and the position coordinates of the electrode plate intersecting point that is farthest from the center position coordinates are detected by a coordinate detecting circuit 6 against those electrode plate intersecting points which are electrically set in the conductive states by a pressing operation of a pen 7 given to a tablet 5. The pen pressing direction is detected by the value of two position coordinates received from the circuit 6, and the direction of display contents of a display device is switched according to the pen pressing direction. Thus the direction of display contents can be switched for easier handling of a left-handed or right-handed operator without letting the operator perform a special operation nor operate a special switch.
