In an electrostatic precipitator for inductrial gases there is an ionizing section formed by flattened tubular electrodes 2, Fig. 1, through which cooling or heating fluid is circulated and one or more ionizing electrodes 1 spaced midway between electrodes 2, a collecting section having grounded collecting plates 4 and high voltage negative plate electrodes 5 and grounded plate portions 3 extending substantially the entire distance from 2 and collecting electrodes 4, 5 and spaced apart the same distance as electrodes 2. The ionizing means comprises one, two or more wires 1 in each section at a high negative potential and passive electrodes 2 are at a low positive potential. The wires 1 are vibrated to remove dust. In modifications, Figs. 2, 3 (not shown), plates 3 are integral with collectors 4 and may be connected to, or spaced from, the electrodes 2. The ends of electrodes 3, 5 may have cylindrical enlargements. The fluid is cooling water or hot industrial gas. Specification 643,363 is referred to. |
