The prepn. of alkali amide derivs. of formula (I) comprises dispersing an activated alkali metal in a fluid inert hydrocarbon and reacting with hexamethyl disilazane or tert. butyl trimethylsilylamine in the presence of a conjugated diene: M = Li, Na or K; R' = trimethylsilyl or tert-butyl; R" = trimethylsilyl.
