Piston with single ring groove for IC engine

The piston rings (4,5,6) are separately moveable. At least one ring has several projections (10) on the side facing the other ring/s. This forms ring gaps (9) between neighbouring rings. The projections extend over only part of ring width and ring circumference. They are formed by denting or by Laser build-up welding.A spring ring element (8), esp. corrugated washer, is located in the base (7) of the ring groove (3), to tension the piston rings. The three piston rings are located above each other, and the central ring only is provided with projections.
