A device for non contact stripping of coatings comprises: (a) a pulsed, TEA-CO2-laser, i.e. a transversely-excited, atmospheric pressure, carbon dioxide laser; (b) reflective and focussing optics for directing the beam; and (c) an opto-mechanical linkage (1,2,3,4) comprising two or more passive beam tubes (1,2) that permit rotation and articulation at the source (5), between tubes (1,2) and at the working head (6).
