A process for operating a continuous washing plant equipped with a pre-wash section (2), a final wash section (3) and a rinse section (4) is claimed. At least one unit is provided for purifying and/or preparing of the waste water coming out of at least one of the sections. At least a proportion of the waste water is cooled in a water cooler before being reused.
