Hollow blow moulded thermoplastic component mfg. plant for less wear

Equipment for mfg. hollow thermoplastic components in a blow moulding process includes a two part tool (10a,10b) with a system (32a,32b) for locking the closed tool. The locking system (32a,32b) includes coupling elements (80a,80b) which engage with each other in the locked position. One coupling element (80a,80b) is carried by a moveable piston of a hydraulic piston and cylinder unit moving in the tool opening and closing direction (16a,16b) and also rotating about its own axis by use of a power unit. When one coupling element (80b) moves into the opposing coupling element (80a) the elements (80a,80b) are rotated relative to each other from a first position allowing axial movement of the elements (80a,80b) in the tool opening direction and a second position which locks the elements (80a,80b) together to prevent axial movement and hence maintain tool closure.
