The blower impeller rotary driven about an axis is mounted in a housing. Coaxially to the latter is located an inlet aperture, while the housing peripheral wall contains an outlet aperture. The impeller comprises a radially extending base disc with coupled blades.The blower blades protrude radially beyond the base disc periphery. Between the base disc and adjacent housing end wall is provided a free space of at least 5% of the max. dia. of the blower impeller. Thus a transition space is formed, in which the air compressed by the rotating blades can pass.
