A surface cross-linked superabsorbent polymer composition, a process for its preparation and articles made therefrom wherein said superabsorbent composition is prepared by surface cross-linking the polymerization product of a carboxyl or carboxylate group containing monomer with a cross-linker solution comprising water, C3-C6 diol and a cross-linking compound having at least two functional reactive groups with the carboxyl or carboxylate groups of said polymerization product.
