Sound absorber for steam turbines in power stations

The sound absorber (5) is made from a corrosion resistant material, and is installed in the exhaust pipe (1) of a steam turbine, prior to installation of an air-cooled condenser. This reduces the noise transmitted by the steam and the pipe leading to the condenser.The sound absorber may be arranged in a section of the pipe with an enlarged cross-section, and may consist of parallel rows of elements between the walls of the pipe. These may have leading edges, which may also be unperforated, and may have perforated sheeting running parallel to the direction of flow in order to enclose a sound absorbing material, which may also be high-grade steel wire gauze.
