The running wheel (4) is for a centrifugal pump, partic. a peripheral pump or a side channel pump. The wheel is in a pump chamber, whose two side walls are near the two side surfaces of the running wheel. On at least one side surface of the running wheel a ring-shaped, axially moveable sealing lip (6.1,6.2) projects, which locates on one area of the adjoining side wall of the pump chamber. The area of the side wall of the pump chamber is formed by a sealing ring, which is fitted in or on the side wall. The flexible sealing lip is tongue-shaped in cross-section. The sealing lips on the running wheel are formed between the blades and the nave.
