An interactive television distribution system which includes, on the transmitter side, a central processing station having a source of programming and a central microcomputer configured to manage a variety of interactive television applications including digitally encoded video, and audio signals and other digital data including but not limited to computer programs, commands, transactions, coupon distribution, shop-at-home applications, theater and sporting event ticket distribution, banking and financial services, video game support, and message exchanges. On the receiver side the distribution system includes a receiver/processor unit consisting of a central processor (160), random access memory (138), system software ROM (138), and a graphics generator (124). Primary features of the system include a printer (60) and credit card reader (70) together with supporting electronics and system management software to enable the production of coupons and other documents on demand in the home of the user, and to enter credit card data directly into the system. |
