<p>A method for rapidly coating large areas of arbitrary substrates with high-Tc superconducting material is described. Components of the desired coating (32) are prepared in powder form and are introduced as particles (30) in a plasma (24) having an elevated temperature. The plasma (24) heats and transports the particles (30) to the substrate (26) where they coat thereon. After deposition, the coating (32) is annealed in an oxygen environment to perfect the high-Tc superconducting properties of the coating (32). An example is a magnetic shield comprising a large-area high-Tc superconductor, such as YBa2Cu3Oy.</p> |
