PURPOSE:To enable high-speed printing with high density, by previously diffusing a dye into a film of a transfer sheet for a thermal printer the sheet thereof is provided with a dye layer. CONSTITUTION:A base 1 of the transfer sheet consists of polyethylene terephthalate, and the dye layer 2 formed of a mixture of a sublimable dye 10 and a binder 11 in an appropriate mixing ratio is provided thereon. An anti-sticking layer 3 is provided on the back side of the base 1. When the dye layer 2 is brought into contact with an image-receiving paper and the sheet is heated from the back side by a thermal head, the dye 10 in the dye layer is caused to diffuse to the paper side to form a dye image. The same dye as that in the dye layer 2 is previously diffused into the film 1 in an amount equal or approximate to the saturation amount. By this, the dye 10 contained in the layer 2 is prevented from diffusing into the film 1. The energy applied from the thermal head is used effectively for transferring the dye 10 to the paper side, and printing with high density can be achieved in a short time. |
