The cargo (1) consists of a viscous slurry. From the time it is loaded into the hold until it is discharged from flaps (3) at the bottom it is set in movement at intervals to prevent the very thick content from settling. This is achieved by swirling it with bursts of blown-in compressed air. At each air blow-in point at a pressure of approx. 10 bars during a few seconds approx. 500 litres of air is blown out. The air blower is an air lance (5) as is used in silos. It has a series of nozzle apertures or slits (7). On the port side and on the starboard side of the hold (1) at least one air blower is arranged.
