PURPOSE:To obtain an ozone decomposing agent having a high ignition point and excellent in ozone decomposing ability by using activated carbon consisting of irregularly arranged carbon microcrystals having specified properties and hardly graphitizable carbon. CONSTITUTION:Activated carbon consisting of irregularly arranged carbon microcrystals and hardly graphitizable carbon is used as an ozone decomposing agent. Hardly graphitizable cross-combined lattices exist in the gaps among the carbon microcrystals having B to 6B pencil hardness, 100-400Angstrom pore diameter, 150-500m<2>/g specific surface area and 3-50ml/g pore volume. The activated carbon is obtd. by burning a waste tire contg. metal wires at 400-900 deg.C in the presence of oxygen, CO2 and steam. Since the activated carbon has a high ignition point, it is not liable to burn and is excellent in ozone decomposing ability. |
