Electrically driven compact linear actuator that has an electric motor fitted in a housing. The electric motor has a cylindrical rotor assembly coupled to a threaded shaft that it surrounds. One part of the threaded shaft is inserted into an axial orifice of a non-rotating extensible arm. A nut fitted at one end of the non-rotating extensible arm will meet the thread on the threaded shaft. The rotation of the threaded shaft by the electric motor linearly displaces the nut and the non-rotating extensible arm along the threaded shaft. In the preferred design, the threaded shaft has a helical ball groove and the nut is a coincident ball nut. <IMAGE>
