The invention is concerned with the production of metal reinforcements used especially for reinforcing concrete structures. The process for positioning reinforcing components (4) in accordance with a previously defined distribution scheme, corresponding in particular to the longitudinal distribution of the components or families of components consists in: - storing the distribution scheme in memory; - depending on requirements, calling on specific memorised data from the assembly station; - automatically transferring the said data to a medium for displaying the distribution of at least one component or family of components According to a particular method of embodiment, the system for implementing the process comprises a rule (5) equipped with reference scales (6) in the form of light-emitting diodes. The diode display is controlled by electronic and computer means (9, 13).
