PURPOSE: To make it possible to accurately and easily search for a specific transmission tube in a bundle of similar transmission tubes. CONSTITUTION: A searchable transmission tube assembly includes an optically transmissive jacket 26 around a transmission tube. This tube is, for example, an optical fiber and has a light-transmissive translucent jacket 26 around it. Light is made incident on the jacket 28 at one position along the jacket 26. This light is emitted along the length of the jacket 26 to lighten the jacket 26. One tube bundled in a group of similar tubes is searched for by lightening the jacket in this way.
