PURPOSE:To accurately execute matching at high speed without considerably increasing a calculation amount even when an image size is enlarged. CONSTITUTION:Coarse search is executed to calculate a correlation value between a template 41A and an image by moving the template 41A for five picture elements inside the image. An area to maximize the correlation value provided by the coarse search is decided as a first reference area 51A and an area to show the value next to the maximum value is decided as a second reference area 51B. Then, precise search is executed to calculate the correlation value between the template 41A and the image by shifting the template 41A to the periphery just by one picture element with the reference areas 51A and 51B as centers. When the area to maximize the correlation value provided by the precise search is any one of the reference areas 51A and 51B, that area is defined as the area where the template 41A and the image are matched but when the area to maximize the correlation value provided by the precise search is any area excepting for the reference areas 51A and 51B, the precise search is executed again with the area maximizing the value as a new reference area and repeated until the reference area becomes the matched area. |
