PURPOSE:To make it possible to fix an optical fiber to a waveguide substrate and to fix this waveguide substrate to a metallic casing, both sufficiently in terms of strength and the lapse of time and to improve coupling efficiency of the optical fiber and the optical waveguide. CONSTITUTION:A metallic film is formed on the surface of the waveguide substrate 11 on which the optical waveguide is formed and a metallic member 13 is fixed by brazing to this metallic film. The end of the optical fiber 18 is inserted and fixed via a ferrule 19 into a holder 20 formed into an approximately cylindrical shape and this holder 20 is welded and fixed to the metallic member 13 to join the optical waveguide and the optical fiber 18. The waveguide substrate 11 is housed into the metallic casing by welding and fixing the metallic member 13 to the metallic casing. |
