PURPOSE:To provide an excitation light transmission method for a coated optical fiber capable of sufficiently transmitting exciting force by an exciting device. CONSTITUTION:The coated optical fiber 3 constituted by coating the outer peripheral side of an optical fiber 4 with a coating layer 5 is provided with a metallic film 6 functioning as a coating member for excitation harder than the coating layer 5 on its outer circumferential side to form the optical fiber 16 for excitation. The optical fiber 16 for excitation is fusion-spliced to another coated optical fiber 3 and the metallic film 6 of the coated optical fiber 16 for excitation is provided with an exciting device 8 on its outer circumferential side. Which the coated optical fiber 16 for excitation is excited from the outer circumferential side of the metallic film 6 by the exciting device 8, the light from a laser diode 1 is made incident on the coated optical fiber 3 and is transmitted through the coated optical fiber 3. The transmitted light is detected by a photodiode 11. |
