SYNCHRONOUS WORD MULTIPLEXING SYSTEM FOR IMAGE ENCODED DATA

PURPOSE:To effectively localize an error without sharply increasing synchronous words in an image by controlling timing for multiplexing a synchronous word to image encoded data obtained by variable length encoding based upon local image property data. CONSTITUTION:A local property extracting means 4 extracts data from an information source encoding means 1, extracts the local property of an image and sends the extracted local property data to a multiplex control means 5. The means 5 compares the received local property data with a threshold, and when the data exceeds the threshold, controls a synchronous word multiplexing means 3 so as to insert a synchronous word. Thereby a synchronous word is more frequently inserted into a high activity part, so than an error propagation range is localized.
