PURPOSE:To prevent the deterioration of electrode characteristics even when gaskets are sufficiently fastened and gas leakage is eliminated by arranging recessed parts to house electrodes on separator plates. CONSTITUTION:A high polymer electrolyte film 1 is interposed between a porous air electrode (positive electrode) 2 and a fuel electrode (negative electrode) 3 on which proper catalysts are respectively carried, and a cell is constituted. Both electrodes 2 and 3 are resepectively housed in recessed parts 7 arranged on a pair of separator plates 6 for series connection of a current collecting body and cell where a large number of gas supply grooves 4 and 5 to supply air and fuel gas (hydrogen) are formed on both surfaces so that the directions become different by 90 degrees from each other. These parts 7 have a depth of 50 to 100% of a thickness of the electrodes 2 and 3, and respective gaskets 8 have compressibility of 10% to 30%. Thereby, since the electrodes are compressed after the gaskets 8 are sufficently compressed, even when the gaskets 8 are sufficiently fastened and gas leakage is eliminated, reduction in gas diffusive capacity by excessive compression of electrodes so far is not caused, so that the deterioration of electrode characteristics can be prevented. |
